Hi from Lesley Holdstock
After Mayfield West I went to Hunter Girls' High after which I completed my hairdressing apprenticeship at Mayfield. I then moved into Newcastle to work prior to moving to NZ for 3 months of travel; this included working at the Commonweatlth Games in Christchurch as a house maid..
I have enjoyed a variety of job roles within the Hairdressing industry apart from salon work; this included the exciting role of working with Schwarzkopf as technical advisor on products and in marketing for product releases. During this time I had a great opportunity of working with top stylists from across Australia and from around the world.
I am the Head Teacher at Newcastle Hair & Beauty Academy - Hunter TAFE - and enjoy going to work each day in our brand new complex which is a state of art facility in Hair & Beauty education.
My family consists of 3 children, 2 boys - 30 & 25 and a girl almost 17 - I have no grandchildren and fairly certain there will be none in the foreseeable future. Relationship status - single.
I am involved in Newcastle Hash House Harriers - the drinking club with a running problem. This very social fitness group has allowed me to meet lots of new friends, to keep fit and has included travel to Thailand, Perth, Cairns, Gold Coast, Sydney City to Surf and on 23 June I am off to Kuching - Borneo for Interhash. This is a 6 day event where people from all over the world will meet for running, lots of socialising and sightseeing. After this event I will be staying on for some more time in Sabah north of Kuching.
My role in the committee has firstly been to draw on my experiences in organising school reunions and in utilising the framework that 2 other friends and I have used since 1992 for high school reunions. Primarily my role has been in the area of the creation and use of media i.e. surveys, blogsite, email site, invites & media presentation. All of these tasks relate to my creator/innovator skills (i.e. the reason I ended up as a hairdresser); I also manage the financial aspects for the event.
I am looking forward to catching up with people after all of these years, the organising for this event has been lots of fun and I am sure the 2 events organised will be even better and a great memory for us to keep for years to come.
